To the Wyantenuck Membership:
The House Committee will not be offering a Mother’s Day Brunch this year.
At this writing, we are unable to secure enough staff to properly service our members for this event.               Rather than take a chance that we might not be able to fully staff the brunch and have a let down,                   it was decided to cancel the event and allow the membership ample time to make alternate plans.
Regular lunch will be served from 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM
Happy Mother’s Day to all Members!

HANDICAP CORNER                                                                                                                                   What a game golf is.  The greatest game in the world!  One of the features that makes golf competition   enjoyable is the handicap system.  As early as 1687, a golfer was musing in his diary whether it was better to give a competitor strokes over a series of holes or lump them together in a single hole.  In 1857 The Golfers Manual presented four handicap options: "third-one" (one stroke every three holes), "half-one" (one every two holes), "one more" (a stroke a hole), or "two more" (two a hole).  At the time, the handicap was a matter of negotiation before the round.  As golf grew more popular, players began demanding a more systematic method for comparing skill levels between players who didn't know each other.  The USGA system was born in 1911 and was first used in 1912 to determine eligibility for the U. S. Amateur (a handicap of 6 or better).  Today the sophisticated USGA handicap system allows enjoyable competition between players of widely different abilities. If you don't have a USGA handicap, what are you waiting for?  If you like competition, play for a few bucks now and then, or simply like to see if your game is improving, you should have a handicap and post your scores.  It's easy to get registered and get a handicap.  See Jennie or Tom.
